This past spring and summer, Park View high school has had to share our stadium field as they waited for Seneca Ridge middle school to renovate their lower field to a turf field. Park View will use this field as they are in the process of getting all their fields torn down to build a new school.
Darrell Wilson, the athletic director, said, “They’re going to build a new school on the athletic fields and tear down the old school and build new athletic fields there, so by the time these freshmen this year [2029] will be graduating, that should be around the time they’ll be done, or maybe one more year.”
Right now, Park View travels to Dominion by bus for practices and games as if they were travelling for away games.“They don’t use our team rooms, they use our boys PE locker rooms just like how the visiting team uses the girls PE locker room,” Wilson explained.
So far Dominion has not had any problems with Park View using the stadium field over Dominion teams, although for certain scrimmages Dominion had to play on Park View’s field and Park View football played on our stadium field.
Wilson said, “We’re trying not to impact as much of our team’s regular schedules. Park View is working around our schedule, if it’s to a point that something unusual is happening we’ll try to work with them to make sure it’s as minimally impactful on us as possible.”
This year there was a football double header with Park View, pushing the Dominion game earlier to a 4:30 kickoff time, which in previous years, we have never had a doubleheader with Park View football. Anne Gasser, assistant athletic director, said, “We have done it [double headers] in basketball and soccer in the past, or varsity teams play on one day and JV games play the next day.”
