The volleyball team is facing up against the Colonels at James Wood high school tomorrow at 6pm for the decider of who goes on to the state semifinals. The coach and players are very excited for this match to prove their achievements they have accomplished throughout the season.
Head volleyball coach Tat Phuong talks about how he feels about heading to states and the emotions the team and him are feeling heading into the game, “I’m excited, you know, and it’s been a long season now. So it’s about how do I make sure that our program and our team stays excited, and is physically and mentally there.”

Phuong also talks about what they were practicing this week so they can have good preparation over James wood in the game. “So they’re three-time defending state champions, so we have to be able to try and match that intensity at practice. Things we want to emphasize on that I thought we did really good during the season and we got to get back to is to serve tougher, find ways to attack taller blockers, because they[James Wood] will be tall, and continue to learn how to close out games,” Phuong said.

This game is also very important to the upperclassman players because this might be one of the last volleyball games they play in. Megan Hiltner, the district player of the year expresses this sentiment, “My plans are just to fight hard and leave everything out on the court. This may be the last game that I ever play, so I want to just give it everything and support my teammates and try to push them to do the same for the team,” Hiltner said.Â
Amaya Bowles first team All-Region player, explains what her and the team have done to prepare for this moment to get them to this point in the season, “I would say just consistent reps during practice and always just asking question because I know me and my teammates, we always like to ask question and always be correct.” Amaya also says what she hopes to accomplish during this state game, “As a team I’m hoping that we will still all support each other and just collectively work together. And as an individual, just keep working on what I want to do and just be a leader as well,”Bowles said.Â
The team wants all the support they can get and ask all the fans to watch it on NFHS network or get a ticket right Here to support them live at James Wood highschool.Â
