Girls Flag Football has already had interest this year with the creation of the Girls Flag Football Club. The club meets in room 615 once to twice a month, with some meetings being held on the turf.
“We started this club because flag football is such a rapidly growing sport and we knew that it was going to come to LCPS very soon,” Co-President Safura Siddiqui said.
The Commanders could possibly fund the Girls Flag Football for Loudoun County. According to Derek Farrey, the Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities, the deal with the commanders has not yet been agreed upon, and it will likely consist of the commanders helping to fund the flag football program. The funding will likely not be agreed upon until April or May.
Dominion Athletic Director Darrell Wilson thinks that all 17 LCPS high schools will have a girls flag football team, “Flag football isn’t a VHSL sport; it will be played; we’ll only play schools in Loudoun.”

“Girls flag [football] might impact field hockey, cheer, girls volleyball, and cross country,” said Wilson.
The changes regarding wrestling would not change much, as of now girls can wrestle on Dominion’s team. “As far as we know, with the way VHSL has it set up with starting a girls team, yes girls we still be able to wrestle with the boys team as well,” said Wilson.
Wilson said that the volleyball coaching staff will likely remain that same, but one coach could coach more than one level.
All of these sports will only have a varsity team as of right now.
Wilson said that he thinks that volleyball and football will have a decent number of students interested. “As far as boys volleyball and flag[football] we do have clubs that are organized with students who are involved in them.”
