Create for Kids Club is a nationwide organization that has recently been brought to Dominion. In Dominion’s Create for Kids Club, students will make kits and cards for children in hospitals. Making one card is worth 30 volunteer minutes and a kit is worth an hour. Currently, all gifts will go to children at Inova Fairfax.
President Nivedita Krishnan said, “Our mission is to make sure that we’re able to build a nurturing environment for kids in the hospital while they heal. We believe that creativity has the ability to do that, which is why we made this club here because we want to be creative and we want to use that to help the kids in hospitals.”
Krishnan has been volunteering through the organization for the past year, which is why she wanted to bring it to Dominion. “I’m hoping that people will get the opportunity to collaborate with others and play their role in the community [and] do something for other people,” Krishnan said.
There are some upcoming club events including the trunk or treat this October and the “Shave the Day” fundraiser. “Basically, we’re pieing people with shaving cream to raise awareness for Cancer Awareness Month,” Krishnan explained. “We actually already recorded it and we’re going to post it soon.”
The Create for Kids club, sponsored by Maria Cruz- Thanker, will be meeting on Wednesday once a month at 8:45 AM in room L112.
