On Thursday, May 14, 14 participants, including the administration staff, heads of music and sports departments, two SCA students, and Owen Gotimer, the owner of OG media met to discuss ideas for the Dominion’s future logo.
Dominion’s current logo was designed by a sophomore before the school opened, and was selected by the future student body. It is recognized as a ‘T’ with wings and uses the school colors black, silver, and white. There has been a variety of responses to the idea of a new logo, ranging from some people wanting to change it completely, and some not at all.
Dr. Brewer explained that the need for a new logo is evident because the current one is not unified throughout the school, and several sports teams use different logos. “We have about 17 renegade ‘Ts’ out there, some of which, quite frankly, probably aren’t even appropriate to be displayed on our uniforms because of their makeup. That tells me we’re not very satisfied with our current logo,” he said.
Another concern brought up was that the current logo’s letter stands for “Titan,” and most schools use the first letter of their school, not their mascot. So it was decided that the letter ‘D’ would replace the current logo.
Everyone also agreed that an additional accent color was wanted in the new logo, potentially an electric blue, however additional colors would result in a more expensive print, and all final designs and colors are still undetermined.
A major point of discussion was how to combine the logo with Dominion’s new mascot, which was just introduced. Gotimer suggested that while the logo should stay consistent in years to come, the mascot could be subject to change in future years.
While no decisions have been made, and they are still in the early planning stages of what Dominion’s new logo will look like, it is agreed that the new logo should pay respect to Dominion’s tradition, strength, and community.
