Pep Rallies seem to be what most of you are looking to improve on. How would you improve pep rallies at Dominion? What are the current problems with pep rallies in your opinion?
I think the current problem with pep rallies is games becoming repetitive. I want to come up with new ideas so that the student body is constantly becoming more engaged and getting more excited and not just expecting to see the same exact thing every year. I think dodgeball is really repetitive, people kind of just are getting bored of it. So I would try to take that out as one of them. Although, on the other hand, Sumo, which we do a lot, I think, is really liked. So I understand different viewpoints of that, but common games, like what I said, dodgeball, are definitely getting rid of because people are just bored of it. It’s what you’ve been doing your whole life, since elementary school.
Outside of pep rallies, how would you increase school spirit at this school?
We need more advertisements and we need more events that are not just pep rallies and typical games. It doesn’t have to be like big events, it can just be something small, link crew does cookies and cram for freshmen. I think more things like that for the school could be good. I’m currently Vice President of Communications, so I’m in charge of advertisement. I believe that, aside from me and Instagram, we can definitely be trying more. I want to be able to make more like posts on other social media platforms and get on the morning announcements so that people are more aware of what’s going on.
What other issues specifically are you hoping to address as president? How would you solve them? Why do you think the position of president can solve this?
Our school is so divided. We have such a diverse community, and I want more people to be at the same events. Like, for example, I feel like I love the option of having the library and the cafeteria for a place for people that don’t like loud noises during pep rallies to go to. But I want to try to create more environments where we can have an entire crowd of people of the entire school in one place, so that everybody feels excited and that people don’t think of events as poorly, because they will just be going off to another place for them. I want events where everybody can be included.
What makes you the most qualified to be president?
Aside from Sean Ecker, I’m the only person who’s taken SCA for two years, and I am In a vice president role. [I’m the only] vice president out of all four of us. But I don’t think that’s what’s going to make me qualified. I think that it’s not going to be a title that’s going to make me qualified. I want Dominion to be a better place without me being in charge, I don’t want to be seen as the title. I want to be seen as equally to everybody else, and aside from my candidates who say they would prefer the obvious of better pep rallies and better environments, I want to come up with general ideas on how we can implement that, instead of just saying that. I’ve spent so much time on SCA outside of school and working towards making events better.
Many students aren’t very informed on what SCA actually does throughout the year. Why does it matter if someone becomes president? How would you explain this to a freshman?
SCA’s day to day is finding ways that we can make our school a better place, where everybody has a fun time and everybody’s included. We are planning events and where we’re planning fundraisers. We have class discussions and we do journals every day where we are all able to talk about leadership and how we can grow as leaders and how we all want equally, the best place for everybody to be at school.
Is there anything else that you would like to add?
I am in no means running for president for the title of being president. I am running for president because I care so much about SCA and I care so much about our school. And being able to have the role of president would give me the opportunity to try to be the best leader that I can and help our school become a place for everybody to have the best events possible and be happy not dread.
