Pep Rallies seem to be what most of you are looking to improve on. How would you improve pep rallies at Dominion? What are the current problems with pep rallies in your opinion?
Specifically, I want more engaging games in the pep rallies, I want to be able to get the crowd more involved, rather than everyone just standing and watching. I want to somehow get the crowd involved. I don’t think the crowd is involved enough right now, and I don’t think the games are as engaging as they need to be. [I have ideas for this,] they’ll be revealed next year.
Outside of pep rallies, how would you increase school spirit at this school?
I want to increase attendance at our sporting events. I think we don’t put enough emphasis on games that are happening, and advertise them enough. Build them up so people want to come to them.
What other issues specifically are you hoping to address as president? How would you solve them? Why do you think the position of president can solve this?
Well, in SCA, the President has more of a say, a little bit of a veto on a lot of decisions that are being made. And really the main issues are pep rally games, spirit weeks, and game attendance.
What makes you the most qualified to be president?
Compared to the other candidates, I am more bold and willing to speak out and voice my opinion on things. So in the SCA room, when we’re making decisions, rather than the other presidents maybe staying quiet and not really voicing their opinions, I will do that, and I really pushed to achieve my goals for the school.
Many students aren’t very informed on what SCA actually does throughout the year. Why does it matter if someone becomes president? How would you explain this to a freshman?
Most of the school events, like pep rallies and homecoming and fundraisers are done by SCA. So we plan them and make sure they run smoothly and effectively. [The president] has a final say on things, and really influences a lot of decisions that are made. It is also a leadership class, so we learn leadership skills.
