The iPhone We Want is Finally Out, but it Comes With a Price Tag!

Just when we thought all hope was lost, we got it back. However, it came with a huge price tag.

Tuesday afternoon, Apple had a very special event in their new campus, Apple Park revealing a plethora of hardware and software.

The highly-acclaimed hardware collection included:

  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8/8+
  • Apple Watch Series 3
  • Apple TV 4K

Apple also unveiled new softwares that are coming to most Apple devices soon. Here they are:

  • iOS 11 – Available 9.19
  • watchOS 4 – 9.19
  • macOS High Sierra – Available 9.25
  • tvOS 11 – Available 9.19

As a devoted Apple user, I was ecstatic when I first heard about these devices. No other Apple event has had so many rumors come out before the launch. For high school students, phones are the epitome of our life. And iPhones are what majority of Dominion students use these days. Many freshmen that I talked to are thinking about upgrading, but I asked them, “how much are you willing to pay?” There were many mixed responses, but of course everyone wants to pay less for more. As you read this, you will see the difference between the iPhone X (Apple’s flagship phone) and the iPhone 8 (Apple’s subpar phone).

iPHONE X: Better Start Saving Up!

The iPhone X was by far, the most talked about product before and after the event. Rumors mainly came out for this device, and most people knew the design almost a month before the release! Here are some key features for the iPhone X.

  • 5.8 Inches, Edge-to-edge OLED display
  • Glass front & back (PUT ON A CASE)
  • Wireless Charging
  • FaceID (replaces TouchID)
  • No Home Button
  • Water and Dust Resistant
  • True-depth camera
  • Animoji!

Some people are looking at the list and don’t know what half of it means. That’s all right! In simpler terms, the iPhone X is a full-screen iPhone with no home button and wireless charging.

Wireless charging is not as futuristic as it sounds, however. Wireless charging just simply means that you can put your phone on a charging “pad,” and it will automatically charge. On the bright side, you can now listen to music as it charges! Since they decided to keep the port, you can carry around a portable charger in your backpack if needed. More information on wireless charging can be found here.

Some other features that seemed pretty cool were the Animoji and the FaceID. The Animoji’s are basically a full-fledged emoji filter for your face. The infrared camera built-into the front of the phone is used to detect your facial recognition, and automatically mimics it onto an animated emoji. If you want to learn more about animojis, click here. Also, the FaceID completely replaced the TouchID on the new iPhone. FaceID also uses the infrared camera in the front to scan your face to unlock your phone. Apple has said to work really hard on this to make it really secure, and safe from pictures and masks. If you want to learn more about FaceID, click here.

One big thing I want to address is the price tag. The starting price for the iPhone X is $999, almost ONE GRAND. From the information above, do you really want to put down one grand on a phone? If yes, go ahead! If not, next, we’ll talk about second, more cheaper route.

iPHONE 8: The One That’ll Not Break Your Bank

So, the iPhone X is not for you? Well, don’t fret, Apple’s got you covered!

Yesterday, Apple also unveiled a new, subpar iPhone called the iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 starts at about 700 dollars, and gets you about every software feature from the iPhone X except for FaceID and Animojis.

From the design aspect, it looks just like the iPhone 7, except that it has a glass back. If you plan to get either of these phones, I HIGHLY suggest that you get a case! It is now vulnerable from the front and back, and who knows what might happen to your phone in the halls of DHS?

Although, if you don’t care for the extra features, the iPhone 7 is still out there. The price now dropped to about 550 dollars.

IN OTHER NEWS…

Even though the iPhones were the center of attention during the whole event, the other products unveiled yesterday were pretty interesting as well.

The new Apple Watch Series 3 now has fixed the only problem with the Apple Watch’s so far. Now, if your phone is not near you, you can still use it still use it too it’s fullest. For example, you can make calls, send text messages and use Apple Watch apps without your phone. Thank you Apple!

Also, software updates are coming in a few days. iOS 11 is coming to most iPhones in three days, and is coming with a huge design overhaul. Also, you can pay your friends via. Apple Pay on iMessage. All you need is a credit/debit card and you are all set! I have been using the beta for the last few months, and I have absolutely no complaints!

The iPhone 8 is available for preorder on Apple.com on September 15th and available in stores on September 22nd, while the iPhone X will not be available for preorder until October 27th and will not be in stores until November 3rd.

So, will you be the next owner of a new iPhone?
