On January 15th at 6 pm, Seneca Ridge Middle School hosted its annual Multicultural Night, allowing students, families, and staff to celebrate cultural diversity for the evening.
The event featured cultural displays, performances and foods representing different backgrounds. Students from Dominion, Lowes Island Elementary, Meadowland Elementary, Horizon Elementary, Sugarland Elementary and Seneca all participated in representing both their school and culture.
Lowes Island featured their fashion show, Meadowland their Color Guard, Horizon their chorus and both Seneca and Dominion with their dance teams.
Melanie Fraim, who works in the Student Assistance Services, stated that the equity group in Seneca took part in planning this event as well as the principal, Nick Cotone, who meets with different schools to figure out which clubs would take part in this night.
Fraim also says Multicultural Night is important for students because it has “every student feel seen and feel represented,” as well as being a night to learn about things kids would care most about or find more interesting.
