Where are you originally from?
I came here from Kentucky. Although I did grow up and lived in Purcellville. My family moved around a lot, so I spent a while in Purcellville, but didn’t go to [Loudoun] Valley.
Where did you attend college?
I went to [the] University of Virginia for my undergrad, and then Asbury University in Kentucky for my masters.
Where and what did you previously teach?
I taught for several years. I taught high school English and Music at an alternative school in Kentucky. And then, I taught 10th and 11th grade, regular and honors English at a traditional high school in Kentucky.
What classes are you teaching this year?
I’m doing some freshman reading intervention, and I’m helping with the freshman English course and several 11th grade English courses.
Who or what inspired you to be a teacher?
I’ve had some teachers in my family, but I think what really inspired me to be a teacher is when I was a kid, I was frequently in trouble, and having good teachers made it a lot easier to be a good student, whereas having bad teachers made my days dreadful and would lead to me acting out and getting in more trouble. So, I saw the value of having a good teacher, and I think it’s important for there to be good teachers. That’s why I wanted to be one.
What led to your midyear switch to Dominion?
My family moved.
How have the past few weeks as a Titan been?
Great, I haven’t had any issues, really. I think there were a couple things some people thought would be difficult, like acclimating and jumping right into some classes, but I really haven’t had any issues, and I don’t think I’m causing any, as far as I can tell.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to read and I love to play music.
Do you have any summer plans?
Just hanging out at home [and] hanging with my family.
