Last year prom was hosted in D.C, this year Prom will not be held there because they received feedback from students and they didn’t want to repeat prom from last year, “By going back to DC it’s kind of just the repeat of what they had this year before, so that makes sense, we are local this year, ” said Junior class sponsor Rebecca Tracey-Hitrik.
By having Prom in Cascades overlook it will more accessible and equitable than in D.C
“We’re gonna start by selling [tickets] for $25 a piece. We’re gonna do that only if you buy them really early, like when they go on sale. You’ll probably only be able to buy them for that price until spring break, and after spring break they’ll go back up to $50,” said Dr. Brewer.
The hope is that having prom on a Friday will increase attendance, because they have had previous successes with it, “We had to do it on Friday; that’s the only date we could get, and we had the best attendance by far we’ve had, maybe ever in school history,” said Dr. Brewer.
Students will be able to leave school early the day of prom if they have purchased a ticket,
“We’re gonna want you to show up for school in a meaningful way and attend class … Some people probably will have no choice but to schedule appointments for nails or hair at 10:30 in the morning or noon or something like that,” said Dr. Brewer.
If you leave school early without a ticket it would likely result in a punishment like sunrise room, Dr. Brewer said,”it would probably result in something we call sunrise room issues, right coming to school a couple hours early to get some homework done.”
The hope is that people come together to celebrate instead of everyone going their separate ways. “I just hope you know that they’ll celebrate it together, yeah, to have, like, some togetherness, not just your separate ways,” said Dr. Brewer.
