Dominion has made efforts in raising awareness for breast cancer by having many fall sports like field hockey and volleyball having pink out games. Dominion’s Breast Cancer Awareness Club is now another opportunity for students to raise awareness for breast cancer and have a better understanding on the topic.
Breast Cancer Awareness Club meets once to twice a month in room 104, where they make cards and discuss breast cancer awareness.”We are going to go to hospitals and make cards for them or bring flowers,” noted Co-President Lily Phillips. In their first club meeting on October 23rd, they made cards for breast cancer patients where you could earn 30 volunteer minutes per card. The next meeting will be held on November 25th at 8:45 am where they will be planning to prepare for the pink out gymnastics meet.
The club’s main goal is to raise awareness for breast cancer, while growing the club. “Our Goal is that we can just spread [the club] and be a bigger club, grow off time,” Phillips said.
The other Co-President, Lili Domonkos, shares her hopes for the club “[The hope] for next year to just keep going and then have people contribute.” Domonkos also explains the reason they started the club, “We just realized that we don’t have one because we don’t have one for breast cancer and it is really common.”
Club Sponsor Laura Hoyler has a special connection to breast cancer awareness herself, “My mom is a two time breast cancer survivor…, so of course I would be happy to help, and I think it is an important club to have.”
