As the election race for Virginia Governor and numerous other positions nears the end on November 4th, Dominion held a mock election on October 16th during advisory in order for students to participate and gain an understanding of the voting process.
The election for Governor was won in a landslide by Democratic candidate Spanberger with 75% of the votes to Republican candidate Winsome Earl-Sears’ 25%. As for Lt. Governor, Ghazala F. Hashmi won by an impressive lead with 62.5% of the votes, another win for the Democratic party.
Interestingly enough, the votes for Attorney General was practically the same as the Lt. Governor vote percentage wise with Democratic candidate Jay C. Jones received 63.5% of the votes and the Republican candidate only netting 36.5% of the votes.

This trend continues for the House of Delegates 27th District with Democratic candidate Atoosa R. Reaser won with 66.6% of the votes. For Algonkian School Board Member, April Moore Chandler similarly won with 61.8% of the votes.

All projects on the ballot were passed with the votes overwhelmingly in support of all projects garnering at least 75% of the votes. Additionally, the amount of responses was slightly less than the presidential election that was held last school year (736) with 698 total responses, meaning close to about 50% of all Dominion students voted. A number that closely matches the last general election with 59% of Virginia residents registered to vote.
