The first week pep rally usually brings about boredom on a Friday morning, but thanks to the afternoon time and the 4:30 kickoff, students showed nothing but enthusiasm and it came as a real shock how thrilling this pep rally was.
Typically our school sticks to the same boring traditions of mumbling on the mic as the MC is trying to explain directions or get the students hype. This year traditions are changing because we could actually hear better and they finally introduced the football team at the beginning of the pep rally. You would think they would always do that before the rivalry game pep rally, but this seems to be the first year for it to happen. In addition rather than chanting and booing other classes we booed against Potomac Falls which encouraged students to be more hype for the game.
The vibes were also higher because it was in the afternoon right before heading to the game instead of heading back to class. No one wants to go back to their classes after a supposedly hype pep rally. Sadly, for homecoming we are going back to a morning pep rally for no good reason.
Everyone was included and participated in this pep rally unlike previous years. Even Dr Brewer got in one of the sumo balls and played the game against another student, which was a clear thrill to the students. Something else that really stood out to students was the neon lights, as they beamed on everyone the crowd got louder.Â
Compared to the pep rallies we had last year this one was an excellent way to start the school year with positive changes. I’m not sure if many students expected much of a pep rally due to them not advertising anything on social media, but it turned out to be better than anyone anticipated and lets hope SCA keeps the good vibes going.
