Dominion Lacrosse Still Undefeated

Dominion boys and girls lacrosse will play the first-year Rams of Riverside tonight as they fight to keep their undefeated season alive.

Led by senior goalkeeper John Paul Renick, the Titans have let up just 29 goals this season and have scored 85. Now 6-0 on the season, the Titans have defeated many challenging teams including Langley, Yorktown, Patrick Henry and McLean High School.

The Girls are off to the same start, scoring 109 goals in just six games and allowing just 28. Senior captain and attackman Amber Shields attributed the team’s success to the close relationship the team shares. “We spend a lot of time together outside of practice which keeps us tight,” Shields said.

Renick attributed the team’s success to their work ethic and attitude. “We just need to keep the energy going and keep working hard in practice,” Renick said.

In the next two weeks, the boys’ team will enter their difficult conference schedule, where they will undoubtedly be seeking revenge against the Woodgrove Wolverines, who knocked them out of the playoffs last year.

“We just have to keep working hard and playing as a team,” said Head Coach Pete Lenotti.

Despite both teams historic success thus far, they take it one game at a time. “Our undefeated record gives us more confidence going into games,” Shields said.

Head girls lacrosse coach Diane Traynor is confident in her team this year. “Overall, I think this is the strongest team we have fielded at Dominion. I tell them, other teams may have a few strong players we need to shut down, but we have twelve on the field at all times that they have to worry about.”

The girls are also looking forward to the playing the three-time State Champions of Woodgrove High School on April 28th, who also knocked them out of the playoffs last season. “We know the competition will be tough and we prepare for each game as it comes,” Traynor said.

Both teams hope to continue their undefeated seasons tonight against the Riverside Rams. Despite being a first-year school, Rams boys’ lacrosse is also undefeated this season.  The Rams will undoubtedly be put to the test on the Titans home field, as they will play under the lights tonight at 7:30. The girls will travel to Riverside to take on the 2-2 Rams at 5:30.
