Titan Girls’ Basketball Defeats Talented Vikings

After falling short their first two games of the season, Titan Girls Basketball has bounced back and have won five of their last six games, including a big conference game against Loudoun Valley. Tonight at 7:15 the Titans will be at home to take on the Park View Patriots.

“The first two games were tough because we were still getting used to playing with each other,” said junior shooting guard Lila Najmyar.  “But after more practices we had more communication and came together.”

On Wednesday night the Titan’s were put to the test against a talented Loudoun Valley team (4-2) but came out on top with a 37-32 victory, improving their record to 7-4.

“Last night we beat Valley and we haven’t for a couple of years. We just played with confidence,” Najmyar said.

The Titan’s still have eleven games to go before playoffs, and will need to capitalize against the basketball powerhouses Loudoun County and Woodgrove.

‘This season we have had great communication and we plan to keep it by just going as hard as possible in practice,” Najymar said.

Senior point guard Amanda Valenzuela plays a large role on the team and has high expectations for the team the rest of the season. “We are going forward in the season with high energy and our heads held high. Beating Valley was a big accomplishment and we plan on finishing the season strong so we can make it to regionals.”

Head coach Brian McElroy is impressed with the team’s cohesiveness and the support they have shown one another thus far. He hopes that the team will continue to improve as they enter into the heart of the season. “We try to build the momentum from these types of wins by focusing on the positive and working on the negatives to improve with each outing,” McElroy said.
