Recently unveiled by the county is the Global and Linguistics Academy (AGLS), which will be hosted at Dominion starting in the 2025-26 school year, with students arriving in the 2026-27 school year. The Academy focuses on engaging students in international relations and high-need languages to tackle global challenges.
“The Academy of Global and Linguistic Studies offers students the opportunity to develop the cultural competency necessary to be successful in an increasingly complex and global job market,” Kathryn Clark, LCPS Director of Academic Programs said.
The program will have two pathways for students. Global Leadership, will focus on Arabic and Arab culture, including exchange programs and native guest speakers. The curriculum will primarily cover international studies, diplomacy, global politics, and conflict resolution.
In addition, there will also be another pathway focused on global business and economics. Students will focus on Mandarin and Chinese culture just as the first pathway covers Arabic. This pathway will have an emphasis on global economics, financial markets, international trade, and business strategy.

The program is currently undergoing its planning year in 2025-26, but will be available the 2026-27 school year for 100 applicants in the 9th grade. The second year is when 100 additional students will be able to apply. Like the MATA program at the Academies of Loudoun, the application process will be a lottery system. Each year for four years 100 students will be added, bringing the total students to the program to 400.
One question to be raised regarding the installation of this program is how will they make room for the academy. “At most, this program will increase Dominion High School’s population by 50 students every year, for four years,” Principal Dr Brewer said. Meaning, 50 slots for Dominion High School, and 50 slots shared across the other schools in the county. Additionally, this indicates the program will also not inhibit Robey High School at all. According to Dr. Brewer, the program will be able to coexist with Robey High School for many years to come.
