What brought you to Dominion:
The pull was Dr. Brewer. He was my assistant principal when I was a kid at Broad Run. After college I got my start at Stone Bridge. Jim Person mentored me. He was one of the big influences as well as Dr. Brewer to go into administration. I got extremely lucky the positioned opened up here at Dominion. I applied and I was lucky enough to get the job.
How did your time begin at Dominion:
I was the summer school principal (at Riverside). The agreement was I would leave at 2 o’clock once the summer school kids got on a bus and then I would drive out here to Dominion. Then I would work until the late evening. Once summer school graduation was done then I came.
How have the first couple of weeks gone for you:
Stone Bridge is very different in the way that we approach things and we do things. The last 7 years I have known the Stone Bridge method of doing things. Dr. Brewer’s philosophy is completely different so in a sense I have gone from PC to Mac and learning how to do things the Titan Way. I’m loving it. I couldn’t be more excited to be here. I feel welcomed. My mom came to visit me and she said I have never seen a school more alive.
What will you focus on at Dominion:
I ran our official Stone Bridge twitter. I value the importance of branding and having a message and promoting. In preparing for the job interview at Dominion I looked to online for information regarding students and staff, but felt that the social media presence, other than DHS Press, was lacking. I felt like we weren’t promoting what we’re doing here enough. One of my goals this year, I am going to be in control of the instructional innovation team, is to get staff members comfortable with using twitter. If we don’t promote what we are doing, in a digital sense, were missing a part of our market.
