Forcible Removal Incident on United Airlines Flight Sparks Anger

On April 9, 2017, Dr. David Dao was violently removed by the Chicago Department of Aviation from United Airlines flight 3411 after United employees realized that there was not enough room on the flight for both all paying passengers and essential airline personnel. As per United policy, a flight attendant offered a flight voucher for any passenger willing to exit the plane and take a later flight, but after realizing there were no takers, decided to have passengers removed at random. In particular, the mistreatment of a passenger because of the United crew’s late arrival has started nothing less than an Internet outrage. Since seeing their stock values drop millions as a result of the incident, United has pledged to make changes to their company policy in hopes of preventing similar future incidents.

Sean Spicer Sparks Scandal after Holocaust Comments

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, who after three months of the Trump administration has become nearly notorious for his onstage gaffes, suggested that President Assad of Syria, by using chemical weaponry on his own citizens, was in many ways worse than Adolf Hitler. The reasoning he provided for such a claim, inflammatory as it is on its own, was that Hitler did not use chemical weaponry. When reminded that Hitler in fact employed chemical weapons to massacre millions, Spicer relented but then made reference to ‘Holocaust Centers,’ a botched allusion to the concentration camps where the Nazi regime imprisoned Jewish people, racial minorities, and others. Though forced to back down after relentless fact-checks by media, Spicer’s misstep is just another to add to his ever-growing list.

#BoycottSnapchat Campaign Begins after CEO’S Derogatory Comments Discovered

Many Indian members of the Snapchat community are urging both fellow Indians and the Snapchat user base at large to boycott the popular app after it was uncovered that CEO Evan Spiegel expressed in 2015 his distaste for expanding the app’s reach to ‘poor’ countries like India. Since, hashtags #BoycottSnapchat and #UninstallSnapchat have become popular on social media platforms Twitter and Facebook, as individuals of Indian descent from around the globe have become incensed by the CEO’S remarks, especially in light of India’s stature as the world’s 2nd-largest Internet user base. Snapchat has responded to the outrage by suggesting that the remarks were only released as part of a smear campaign by a former employee and that Snapchat is accessible to and tolerant of all.

North Korean Missile Launch Attempt Fails

Just one day after DPRK President Kim Jong-Un ventured to show off much of North Korea’s missile stock in an attempt to suggest its militaristic fortitude to the world, a medium-range missile launch originating from Sinpo, North Korea failed. The launch occurred when Vice President Mike Pence was in nearby South Korea, pledging the United States’ continued support of and alliance with North Korea’s southern neighbor amid rising tensions between the United States and the North Koreans.
