Virginia Tech: Overall (20-9) Conference (9-7)

The Virginia Tech Hokies are trying to go four consecutive years in the NCAA tournament, and things are looking pretty good for them as of late-February. Building on the (22-11) season last year and Buzz Williams fourth year as head coach, the Hokies have high hopes. The backcourt of the Hokies lead the charge with junior Justin Robinson and senior Justin Bibbs averaging 13.5 points per game a piece. The 6’10” junior Kerry Blackshear Jr. provides a spark in the frontcourt averaging 13 points per game and 6 rebounds per game. On Monday Virginia Tech upset Duke 64-63 securing them two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

UVA: Overall (26-2) Conference (15-1)

#1 UVA has been the juggernaut of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Up until February 7th, UVA was 23-1 overall and unbeaten after 13 games in the conference. However, they ran into the streaking Virginia Tech Hokies who handed them their first conference loss. UVA bounced back into their winning ways with wins over Miami, Georgia Tech, and Pittsburg. The Cavaliers are led by sophomore Kyle Guy and senior Devon Hall. The backcourt tandem averages 15.2 points per game each. UVA is a certain #1 seed for the NCAA tournament unless the ultimate collapse occurs. They have two games remaining and close their season on March 3rd at home vs. Notre Dame.

Maryland: Overall (19-12) Conference (8-10)

Maryland has three straight NCAA tournament appearances however that streak will be coming to an end this year. With the Big 10 being one of the best conferences in basketball this year, the young and crippled Maryland has not risen to the top. The Terrapins lost forwards Justin Jackson and Ivan Bender to injury leaving only nine healthy players on scholarship. The Terrapins do however have some promise. Sophomore guard Anthony Cowan and sophomore guard Kevin Huerter averaging 15.9 points per game and 14.7 points per game, respectively. While they do have the potential to be a threat in the NCAA tournament in the future, they will have to settle for the NIT in 2018.

Georgetown: Overall (15-12) Conference (5-11)

Goergetown hasn’t seen the NCAA tournament since 2015, and will miss it again in 2018. After an 8-0 start, Georgetown is 238th in points allowed and 69th in points per game. The Big East has grown into one of the more prominent conferences in college basketball, and Georgetown has failed to win several conference matchups.  Some of their high points however come in junior forward Marcus Derrickson averaging 16.2 points per game and junior center Jessie Govan tacking on 16.7 points per game. Georgetown loses only one notable senior next year and brings in a solid 2018 recruiting class led by point guard Mac Mclung making Georgetown a cause for concern in the 2018-19 season.
