College Football Picks: Championship Week Edition

College+Football+Picks%3A+Championship+Week+Edition

Here’s the schedule of games going on this week that all have huge implications on the College Football Playoff Final Four. My predictions will correspond to what I think the committee will do following the predicted results.

#9 Colorado vs #4 Washington Friday 9:00 pm FOX- Pac 12 Championship Game

This  conference title game has a lot of impact on the committee’s selection in two weeks. #4 Washington was undefeated for most of the year, with little wins against good competition to show for it. It wasn’t until they faced up against USC where they got beat pretty bad, and then after that won two straight, one against rival Washington State last week to move their overall record on the year to 11-1. Colorado is 10-2, a team that has played fairly consistent all year and a team that has bounced back from some early adversity. I think Washington has a far more talented team, but Colorado will do a lot of things to keep this game close.

Washington slips by 38-35

#1 Alabama vs #15 Florida Saturday 4:00 pm CBS- SEC Championship game

Not very much to say about this game. The way the SEC is setup provides little to no real drama in the SEC title game, a loaded West and a far worse East division means this game will yet-again be a blowout. Also considering Alabama is by far the best team in the country this year, doesn’t bid well for Florida.

Alabama wins 35-0

#3 Clemson vs Virginia Tech 8:00 pm ABC- ACC Championship

Clemson as of now is definitely in the CFB playoff and they control their own destiny to get in with a game against Virginia Tech this week. Clemson is a team I don’t think deserves to get in, despite their 11-1 record with a bad loss to an unranked Pitt team, they have shown inconsistency throughout the year. They were a 30-yard field goal make away from losing to NC State and that should be considered when the committee is making their decisions. Virginia Tech is a good team and I think Clemson’s weaknesses will be exposed Saturday night.

Virginia Tech wins it 23-20

#6 Wisconsin vs #7 Penn State 8:00 pm FOX- Big Ten Championship

Championship Saturday ends with an unexpected yet highly anticipated matchup with two two-loss teams from the Big Ten going at it. The West Division Champs, the Wisconsin Badgers are 10-2, and rightfully so have that astounding record despite their top brutal regular season schedule with their two losses coming against now #5 Michigan and #2 Ohio State in one possession games. Penn State snuck into the conference title game by getting one key win at home against Ohio State and getting help later on in their regular season. Penn State’s offensive line has struggled all year, and their offense has found little consistency against good defenses. Wisconsin has a top 5 defense, and their offense has found their way as the season has gone on.

Wisconsin wins 17-10

Scenarios

If my above predictions hold up here is what I think the Final Four will be: 1. Alabama 2. Ohio State 3. Wisconsin 4. Washington. Alabama has no chance of not making it. Even if they lose in a miracle Saturday they will still be in but considering a miracle doesn’t happen they are the best team in the Country. Ohio State’s one loss to Penn state and key wins at Wisconsin and against Michigan among many more, prove why their still in despite not being in the conference championship.

The 3 and 4 spots are possible toss-ups; I think Wisconsin will beat Penn State, and Washington will beat Colorado, but if Clemson does not get upset and they win their title game they are in at 3. Then it comes down to a one loss Pac 12 Champion and a two loss Big Ten Champion. In this scenario I think Wisconsin bests Washington based off of quality wins and “good losses” as well.

If either Wisconsin or Washington lose it leaves room for Michigan to slip in considering their performance against Ohio State last Saturday.

Official Final Four Prediction considering NO upsets happen on Saturday: 1. Alabama 2. Clemson 3. Ohio State 4. Wisconsin.
