Game of the Week: Varsity Cheer District Competition
Cheer seeks the school’s first ever Conference 21 title.
On Saturday October 24th at 2 o’clock pm, the Dominion Varsity cheer squad will perform at Heritage High School for the Conference championship.
The Titans performed last week at the mini-conference competition and earned first place. Winning this meet will give Dominion the advantage to perform last in the District championship. Performing last will give the Titans the advantage of knowing what score they will need to advance to Regionals. Their performance last week, however, means nothing when it comes to Saturday’s scores. Senior captain Hannah Tarro said, “The District Championship is extremely important to our team because it is equivalent to the first round of the playoffs.” The Titans will need to place in the top two to move on to the regional championship.
Senior Captain Jessica Sysak said, “Since we got first at our last competition, were going into districts extremely confident.” The Dominion Titans are certainly the favorites heading into this competition, which puts pressure on their competition. Sysak said that will motivate the other teams to increase the “difficulty of their routine,” in order to gain an edge over the well-favored Titans.
The addition of coaches Heather Colon and Melissa Lampman has proved to be a success, as no team within their district has outscored them so far this season. It would be a huge accomplishment for Lampman and Colon to win districts/conference for the first time in Dominion history during their first year coaching the Titans.
