Athlete of the Week: Scotty Forbes

With Coach Troth taking over as offensive coordinator and Hurricane Joaquin attempting to put a damper on the Titan’s homecoming festivities, last week was a series of unforeseeable events for Titan football. There was a gloomy feel in Titan Territory, as chatter filled the halls that the homecoming game could be postponed until the end of the season. Although the parade was canceled, the game was moved to Park View. The Titans knew the show had to go on, as this game was crucial to their future playoff standings.

The pressure was on senior QB Scotty Forbes as he knew he was a key member of the new Titan offense. With the new spread offense, Forbes knew he had to bring his A game; and he did. With seventy rushing yards and three touchdowns, Forbes was clearly a standout Friday night. With the torrential downpour, the decision was made to run the ball as often as possible. However, Forbes’ single pass to Matt Gricowski turned into a forty yard gain for the Titans. “The rain was crazy,” said Forbes. “If we would have had to throw, we would have been able to. Since the new offense was just installed last week, we wanted to ease into it.”

The Titans’ 49-7 victory over Freedom High School was the confidence booster they needed going into crunch time of the season. Now 3-3, the Titans will play Friday night at Loudoun County, who is currently 1-4 on the season.  With no hurricane in the forecast for this week, Forbes promised that the new offense will be in full effect, “There is going to be new stuff added every week, but you will see what our offense can do on Friday.”
