Holi is the festival of colors, celebrated primarily to welcome spring, the triumph of good over evil, and to bring people together. On Thursday, during 8th block, students celebrated with the traditional throwing of colored powder.
“[It’s also celebrated to remember that] despite all the differences, we are all the same,” Hindu Yuva sponsor Ms. Ambokar said.
Hindu Yuva stands for Hindu Youth for Unity, Virtues, and Action. Its purpose is to bring hindu students together, while sharing hindu culture with others. This is Hindu Yuva’s second year celebrating Holi.
Hindu Yuva president Rohit Panse said, “[It’s important that Dominion celebrates Holi] so that everyone could learn about different cultures and have fun together.”
Here at Dominion, students could be seen running and laughing while throwing vibrant colors up in the air and at each other. By the end of the celebration, every single student there was covered head to toe in bright powders. “These colors are meant to make our lives beautiful,” Ambokar said.
The students who participated really enjoyed themselves as many could be seen after, sitting in the grass and taking pictures with their friends. When asked if he would go again next year, Edvin Lopez-Maldonado, a junior who attended, said, “Of course, I went last year and I’ll go again next year.”
Hindu Yuva meets every other Wednesday before school, for more information visit their Instagram @dominionhinduyuva.
