Fracturing your back in two places might end anyone’s career, but Lindsay Miller is back in action this season ready to end her high school career on a high note.
At the first meet this season, Miller broke the school record for floor. In her strong start to the season, she has won first all around in the past three meets and continues to break her own school record for all around. Miller said, “I definitely want to qualify for states as a team and hopefully individually too.”
Miller has been doing gymnastics ever since she was a toddler, now in her 12th year. Prior to her injury, she competed for the Dulles Gymnastics Academy.
The only teammate that has been with Miller since her freshman year and is still with her is fellow senior Lily Bishop. Bishop said, “I felt really bad especially because she had been doing gymnastics as long as she had. It has to have been hard, so I’m just really glad she’s back and able to do it for her senior year.”
Head coach Susan Frontain, in her 9th year at Dominion, has been her only coach at Dominion. Frontain said, “She came with a lot of gifts and talents already and so many years of coaching. It’s really about making sure the experience that she needs in high school will bring her fun memories and will always be something she remembers.”
Miller picked back up very quickly from being in a body brace to competing again. Frontain said, “It was heartbreaking because she was incredibly talented then and didn’t really know whether she was going to do gymnastics again.”
During her freshman season, Miller placed 2nd on bars and beam at Regional, then went to compete at States and placed 5th on vault and 6th on bars, and was recognized by LoCoSports in 2021-2022 on their All-LoCo Gymnastics First Team.
Coming in with so much experience from previous years, Miller has influenced her teammates around her. Despite being out with an injury, teammates kept up with Miller as she came to support during meets. Bishop said, “Lindsay is definitely a huge asset to the team. She motivates all of us by being amazing.”
The two seniors now compete together and lead the team side by side. Bishop said, “I’m excited to share a senior night with her because we did it together freshman year.”
During Miller’s junior year she ran cross country and track to stay in shape. Frontain said, “Ever since the team realized she had the mindset that she’d like to come back, they have been very receptive and obviously they understand what an asset she has to the team.”
