A lot of work goes into keeping Dominion clean and organized for students and staff to go about their day efficiently. Working here for 12 years head custodian Flavia Medina plays an integral role in ensuring the cleanliness of our school.
As head custodian, Medina’s job is very important. She has a set schedule with assignments for each of the custodians, handing them out and making sure everyone is aware of what they must do for the day. For special events (pep rallies, dances, etc.), Medina and her co-workers organize the space and get it ready for the day.
Since working here, Medina’s favorite part of her job is the feeling she gets when entering the building. “I like what I do, but [my] favorite part is because I feel [at] home, because everybody here [is]kind,” Medina said. She enjoys the satisfaction the job brings, knowing that she plays a key role in students’ educational careers, pushing her to continue her work.
When she first came to Loudoun County, she went through a series of interviews before finally being placed at Dominion. She was welcomed by the staff and was shown the ropes by her then supervisor. It was an adjustment but “then I started loving it,” Medina said, explaining how the first few days were a bit iffy but after she knew what to do it became easy to fall into a schedule.
As hard as her job is, the reward is far greater for Medina, and ensuring that students have a clean space to learn is her top priority. So whenever you see a custodian in the halls, thank them, because their work affects the lives of each Titan at Dominion.
