With the 2024 Presidential Election just around the corner and deadlines fast approaching, below are the dates and deadlines you need to know.
Tuesday, October 15th: last day for voters to register in Virginia. This can be done via mail, online, or in person. To find your in person location click here and to view the status of your registry click here.
Friday, October 25th: deadline to request a mail-in ballot. By signing in to this portal, you can apply to vote absentee by mail. Voters do not need a reason to vote by mail and can choose to do so for any reason. To later drop off a mail-in ballot, voters may drop off the ballot at a local election office or by using a drop box.
Saturday, November 2nd: final day for early voting. Since September 2nd, early voters can visit an early voting location in their county or city with an acceptable ID and vote. Voters do not need to fill out an application or have a reason to take early action.. For more information regarding early voting click here.
Monday, November 4th: last day to request an emergency absentee ballot. Emergency absentee voting is for those who are hospitalized or have an illness and will be unable to vote in person. In order to request, you must fit certain criteria explained here, which is also found in the Code of Virginia 24.2 – 705.
Tuesday, November 5th: general and special election day! This is also the deadline for a mail-in ballot to be dropped off in person and accepted, make sure to stop by before 12 pm. Most in-person sites conclude voting at 7 pm. Voters that register on Election Day are able to vote using a provisional ballot.
