The Homecoming pep rally is a major one, arguably the most important one of all. This is supposed to be the one event that is supposed to get students excited for football; however, the homecoming Friday pep rally was anything but thrilling.
The most disappointing aspect of the pep rally was the lack of relation to homecoming and football, entirely. The most advertisement we received for football was a poorly projected “Go Football!” on the screen that became skewed not even halfway through the pep rally.
Coupled with the sub par advertisement, they had all the fall athletes walk out of the gymnasium to cheer for them briefly as they confusingly waltz back in. Having them on standby and actually informing of them of what was going on would’ve been a significant improvement.
Continuing the trend of poor production value, throughout the entire event, the yelling into the microphone and the horrible speakers means that it is safe to stay, not one individual could understand what was said, at all.
The most obvious example that the pep rally failed was that our incredible dance team didn’t even get anyone up out of their seat. This was true for not one, but two performances..
As many upperclassmen fondly know that, pep rallies have been fun for a variety of reasons, the key factor of that was being able to cheer and be with our grade levels. However, Dr. Brewer made the decision to instead have students sit with their advisory classes. This shouldn’t have been implemented into the event, it’s the Homecoming pep rally, not the advisory pep rally.
Moving from an entire grade level, to a small class of about 20-25 students was a massive oversight in trying to increase school spirit at the pep rallies. We can only hope that next time, our tradition is revived because, after all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
