As the new school year unfolds, a familiar confusion looms over the student body: parking passes. There has been confusion regarding the availability of parking passes this year, leaving many students uncertain about whether there would be enough to accommodate themselves.
School Security Officer Ariel McKinney said, “Since we do not assign parking spaces to every student like some other schools, we have some flexibility due to students being at [the] Academies or absent on any given day.”
In total, there are 298 parking spots available for students, including 24 visitor spots, two of which are for county vehicles, and five are for handicap spots. Since seniors get first priority, there were nearly 200 who received and are utilizing the available spaces. This leaves a limited number of spots for junior students. McKinney notes that students should be aware that Dominion includes student parkers from two other high schools, William O. Robey High School and Thomas Jefferson High School.
Dominion has been doing painted parking spots for four years, and is only two years into the new policy where students are not paying for parking. McKinney said, “If any year is likely to reach full capacity, it would be this one. Therefore, it is crucial to follow all parking rules and display your parking hang tag at all times.”
