Girls’ Varsity Tennis Regional Semifinal Match Today
On May 27, 2015, the girls’ tennis team, who are Conference 21 Champions, will be playing in the semifinals of the Regional Tournament.
Today at 3 p.m. the girls’ tennis team, who are Conference 21 Champions, will be playing a match with the Cougars of Courtland High School in the semifinals of the Regional Tournament.
A few days ago, the team defeated the Blue Streaks of Harrisonburg High School, resulting in their advance in the Regional Tournament.
Along with being the Conference 21 Champions for the second year in a row, Dominion is also home to the singles and doubles Conference 21 Champions. Dominique Huynh is the singles champion. Also, Huynh and her teammate Melissa Liu won the doubles championship title.
With an 18-1 record this season, girls’ tennis is having their best season yet, says Coach Holly Flynn. The team’s only loss this year was a close match against the Loudoun County Raiders where they lost with a close score of 4-5. The girls’ tennis team is now ranked number 1 in Conference 21.
This is Coach Holly Flynn’s eighth season coaching girls’ tennis here at Dominion. Head Coach Flynn says that the key to the team’s success is talent, confidence, and attitude over all. Another unique factor about this season is that they have many good freshmen. “In my opinion, having our four senior starters contributes greatly to our success,” says Coach Flynn.
Starting as a sophomore, this is Molly Morales’ third and last season playing tennis for the titans. Morales says, “Coach Flynn helps me correct my mistakes and makes me a better player.”
Morales attributes the team’s success to how they work together to motivate each other. She enjoys playing tennis because it is a fun way to exercise.
Sophomore Beth Devine is continuing to play tennis with this being her second season. She has played her whole life and is planning on continuing to play for the Titans throughout her high school career.
Devine enjoys playing tennis because it is competitive and fun. Devine says, “Coach Flynn is very supportive, gives good advice, and calms me down when I am stressed during a match.”
Tiffany Yang is a starting freshman on the girls’ varsity tennis team this season. As a freshman, this is her first year playing on the team. She will definitely be returning to play next year, and says that she enjoys playing tennis because, “it is fun.” Yang said. Also, Yang said, “Coach Flynn plays an important role in all of my success by strengthening me mentally.”
The team is a very close, tight-knit group of girls and they all work together to achieve great things. Yang said, “We are very close to one another, and we talk with each other”.
Girls’ tennis defeated the Raiders of Loudoun County with a score of 5-0 to become Conference Champions.
At first in the regular season, the team’s only loss was against the Raiders, and then they came back, beating them in the Conference finals.
This was an unforgettable season with an 18-1 record. “All the girls on the team work well together and they are hard working,” says Coach Flynn.
