Senior attacker, Ava Field, who plays on varsity girls lacrosse just hit a huge milestone for getting 100 career goals on Friday, April 12th. Dominion was up against Broad Run when Field cut wide open from the eight and shot into the high left corner during the second quarter.
Field has been a key component on the team and has gotten recognized for Second Team All-State attacker two years in a row. Her high level of leadership has led her to become a captain this year. Keira Van Voorhis has played with Field for two years now, the sophomore midfielder said, “It’s really amazing, she’s definitely not someone who always drives to the goal. She’s always working for other people to get goals as well.”
Field has played with D1 commits and highly experienced players all of high school, and made 13 goals as a freshman, 30 goals as a sophomore, 38 goals as a junior, and just 21 goals within 8 games so far this season. As an underclassmen, she was a threat on the field and now Field is typically a targeted player by other teams. She said, “Another goal I want to reach is 200 career stats which includes assists, ground balls, and caused turnovers.”
Field has come a long way, and has been playing the sport of lacrosse for 11 years. Starting with her first ever team the Algonkian Tribe playing with fellow teammates Lindsay Fox, Giselle Kennedy, and Riley Albanese. Dominion will be missing her as an athlete and teammate next year as she ends her senior season with this program.
Field doesn’t plan on committing to college for lacrosse, however, she will be attending the University of South Carolina and playing for their club lacrosse team. “We are so proud of Ava and the team is so lucky to have her,” Coach Traynor said.
As the team congratulates Field, she plans on taking this program as far as they can this season to finish out her senior year. Field said she strives “to carry on the legacy that the alumni have left and continue to dominate in our district and region.”
As a four-year varsity starter, Field has made an incredible impact on the team, and next season will surely look different without her. “I think not having Ava is going to be a hard loss because she does a lot on the field for us. It’s something we’re going to have to adapt to, and it’s going to be a different season without her.” Van Voorhis said.
