The 2024 Evening with the Arts on March 7th featured visual art from students at Horizon elementary, Seneca Ridge Middle School and Dominion High School, as well as performances from Blank Slate and the Choir. Awards were presented to seniors Lyri Friedman, Teagan Taylor and Keegan Mason for their displays.
The panel of judges included an LCPS Arts Supervisor, a PTA member, a member of the Dominion Golf Classic, as well as Titan Arts Alumni, EB Fox. “I’ve always loved Evening with the Arts and I wanted to see what kind of art that students at Dominion are making now. It’s a great program, there’s music and art, and it’s a great night and great program. I wanted to come back and be immersed in it,” Fox said.
Judges were looking for technical skill, effort and time put into pieces and overall aesthetics, leading them to collectively award the three seniors for the work they presented.
Lyri Friedman received 3rd place for a charcoal piece she had on display. “It was nerve wracking putting up my pieces for everyone to see and to judge. I won third place and am still very proud of winning it because it was a very competitive, selective process,” she said.
Senior Chase Bochenek displayed film photos he took in his Photography 2 class for the evening. “It’s really cool to present my work because you get to show off exactly what you’ve been doing for the past half of the school year,” he said.
On display were a selection of each student’s art including sculpture, collage work, charcoal, photography and more. “I like the development process, I primarily like going into a dark room and making a blank page into something beautiful,” Bochenek said.
Fox’s return to Dominion was a full circle moment, as her own art was displayed at Evening with the Arts during her time at Dominion. “It was definitely interesting to come back and kind of compare what the art looked like from when I was here. I recognize projects that I did when I was in school that are still kind of in process, and it was cool to see how those projects have changed over time. The quality of art is so great, and the volume of art is so great,” she said.
