Monday Funday: The Brilliance of Ted Lasso
Have you had an extremely bad start to the week? A day of school that seems to inch forward second by second? To put it simply, have you been attacked by a case of “the Mondays”?
If your answer to any of these questions is yes, I have the perfect remedy for you: an episode of Ted Lasso. All you need to do is get comfortable in front of the TV and feast your eyes on a brilliant fusion of comedy and drama centered around a football coach from Kentucky charged with the care of a British soccer team. With a majority of their two seasons available on Apple TV, and the season finale premiering this Friday, this show could revive you from academic worries for multiple horrible Mondays to come.
Everything from its cast of amazing actors, like creator and titular character Jason Sudeikis or the hilarious Hannah Waddington and Brett Goldstein, to a perfect script balancing comedy and heartbreak brings the trials and tribulations of soccer to life. They were applauded for this effort by receiving 20 nominations for and winning seven Emmys – including Outstanding Comedy Series – at this year’s ceremony.
To be quite honest, it doesn’t even matter if you hate the sport with the deepest depths of your soul – Ted Lasso can brighten your day whether the characters are strutting into the locker room from a song by A Tribe Called Quest or Sam Obisanya (played by Toheeb Jimoh) just scored the most beautiful goal to win the game.
