Check This Out: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
What: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Where: Available to stream on Youtube or Amazon Prime Video
Why: Originally aired in 2006 and written by the phenomenal Aaron Sorkin, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is an amazing watch, despite being discontinued after one season. Following the theoretical behind-the-scenes world of sketch comedy, comparable to what you’d imagine going on after Saturday Night Live goes off the air, this dramatic comedy explores Hollywood in a whole new, exciting way—reminiscent of the nature of Sorkin’s earlier White House themed drama West Wing. Featuring a star-studded cast of Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford, and Sarah Paulson to name a few, the outstanding quality is matched in all aspects of the show’s production.
While I was stuck on the couch at home with a sprained ankle, I couldn’t find anything to watch. This show entertained me for several days (as is the nature of habitual binge-watching today) and left me feeling extremely satisfied, despite my immense anger for the showrunners cutting it short after just one season of such amazing television. I’d definitely recommend this show to anyone interested in the genres of sarcastic comedy and situational drama, or to anyone who seeks an escape through the chaotic world of the early 2000s television industry and the suspenseful problems of diverting, well-developed characters.
