With a renewed presence in the school, D-Block won the Truly Titan Award.

On November 26, 2013, Dr. Brewer awarded Dominion’s student section, D-Block, with the coveted, Truly Titan award.

This tradition of the Truly Titan award began in 2003 when a parent of a Dominion student, Mr. O’Brien, saved the life of another Dominion student when she was severely injured at the bus stop before school.

Truly Titan has since become customary to Dominion and has been awarded to numerous persons and groups over the years.

As according to Brewer, a committee made up of: Mrs. Quirin, Mrs. Braxton, Mr. Banks, Mr. Fleming, Mr. West, and himself, meets and decides who to award as Truly Titan. The committee recognizes somebody, or a group of people, who has done something to make the community a better place over an extended period of time.

“We wanted to show our appreciation and validate the role D-Block plays,” Brewer said.

Brewer believes that D-Block is significantly different this school year and has done a better job with presence at games and with remaining optimistic.

“Their positive impact at football games made the fall season enjoyable and gave our football team an advantage it hasn’t had before,” Brewer said of the student section.

Two senior students, Trent Lancaster and Hunter Boyd, contribute heavily to D-Block’s success.

Lancaster was initially surprised at D-Block’s victory, but he and Boyd both feel great about it.

“I was shocked. I didn’t know we made such an impact, but I’m glad to hear it,” Lancaster said of the win.

One factor of D-Block’s triumph this year is social media. Lancaster created and runs a D-Block Twitter account that tweets about games and school events to over 400 followers.

Boyd also leads the student section, fully decked out in black and silver, with organized cheers and chants to rally the crowds.

However, Boyd and Lancaster both agree that D-Block will not be as successful next year without the current senior class.

“We just have a lot more people come out and more of the crowd contributes. Our class is the best,” Boyd said.

Lancaster believes D-Block was so different this year because “…the senior class is talented. We’re good at every sport.”
