Game of the Week: Boys Basketball vs. Briar Woods
Game: Monday 7:15pm at Dominion High School
Why: Although these teams aren’t in the same district, there’s something to prove. Dominion head coach Anthony Eifler goes against the Falcons squad he used to coach against, one that went 16-10 last year. “We didn’t do ourselves any favors in the out of conference as were opening with probably 2 or the top 3 teams in the 5A district,” Eifler said. He didn’t play down the angle of his former team. “ I pull for all of those guys throughout the year, but once we tip we’re going to compete. It will be fun afterwards to give them a hug and see how they do the rest of the year, I’m excited.”
Who to Look For: Dominion is led by their two best scorers, senior guard Sam Shelton and senior forward Max Mancuso, both of whom can shine all over the court.
Season recap: After one tough loss to Potomac Falls, Dominion finds themselves 0-1, trying to even up their record before district play begins. “Last week we wanted to make a statement against Potomac Falls and it didn’t happen,” Shelton said. “This Briar team is one thats just as good in our opinion.” Eifler was excited for the matchup. “Briar is a very skilled and disciplined team that’s already beaten some good teams,” Eifler said. “It will definitely be a good test for us.”
Why Should Students Go: This Dominion team is one of the stronger ones in recent years, and they have a chance here to make a statement with a strong win against the Falcons. “We want to go out there and make a statement to them and all the other teams in our district that we are for real this year,” Shelton said. The Titans are looking to prove themselves. “We want everyone know this isn’t the same Dominion from years in the past and showing that to everyone starts tonight,” Mancuso said.
