Teacher Tuesday: Doc Worth

The cast of Bye Bye Birdie, which Doc directed.

How long have you been teaching for?

25 years.

What is your favorite class to teach and why?

Theater because kids find themselves there and there’s something for everyone and most importantly, I get to see kids smile.

What was your first job?

I was a carhop at Fisher’s Big Boy on roller skates.

What made you want to take over the theater program?

I wasn’t going to, I was just going to help out for a year and then I was going to leave and go semi-retire. But the first audition for Our Town, I realized that this is really what I love and what gives me joy more than playing golf and so I decided to stay.

What are your plans for the theater program?

I hope that within the next five years, I build it financially and increase the participation of students at least double, if not triple, and that we increase our audiences tenfold and that we leave a really thriving, vibrant program.

Who inspires you the most?

Tough question because I think most of my life I’ve just looked to myself for inspiration and so this may sound incredibly arrogant, but I think I inspire myself.
