Senior Opt-Out Privileges

Seniors look to opt-out of Titan Time as spring weather approaches.

All throughout the school day, most students have just one wish; to go home early. By the time you’re a senior, you will have the opportunity to make that wish come true. But, does this privilege have a cost to it?

There is a long list of things that you need to accomplish before your senior year to make yourself eligible for Senior Opt-Out of Titan Time.  First, you must have all C’s or higher in all of your classes to be able to participate in Senior Opt-Out. Second, you would need to have earned all of your verified credits needed for graduation. Thirdly, you may only miss four or fewer days of school per quarter.

Also, you have to be a good citizen; which means that you have not violated the honor code throughout your four years of high school. Lastly, you need to pay your senior dues before you will be allowed to take part in the Senior Opt out.

“It is a great reward for all of the hard work that they have put into school so far.” said Ms. Laiti. She believes that, “As long as they stay on track for graduation, have good grades, good work habits, and complete all given assignments, they should be fine.”

A huge concern of students on this topic is transportation. Although most seniors can drive and own cars, there is still a select bunch that has no means of transporting themselves to and from school.  There is no bus transportation for Senior Opt-Out privileges.

Also, an excused absence such as religious holidays, personal illness, court appearances, and doctor visits still count as an absence, even if they are excused on your personal school report.

Another main concern for students approaching or in the Senior Class is their senior dues. If a student has not paid their senior dues, they will not be allowed to participate in the Senior Opt-Out.  The senior due is $120.00 that needs to be paid by the beginning of the second semester.

Lastly, a main concern for seniors wishing to take part in Senior Titan Times Opt-Out is the ability to meet with their teachers for extra help. On this topic, Ms. Laiti regarded, “Because of the ability to meet with teachers in the mornings and afternoons, I feel that they have enough time to ask for help without being in Titan Time.” Also, students may Opt-In to Titan  Time as needed to get the necessary help from their teachers.
