5 Questions: Jessie Lee
Jessie Lee is a junior at Dominion and she is being recruited to play lacrosse in college.
Question: A large portion of high schoolers do not get the chance to be able to experience the college recruitment process, what has it been like for you?
Lee: It has been overwhelmingly exciting and humbling but super stressful at the same time. I had no idea what to expect going into September 1st, so when I received a text at 12:01 from a college coach, I was shocked beyond belief.
Question: You recently visited Virginia Tech for lacrosse, can you explain what that was like and what how it was?
Lee: Before I went on the visit, the coaches sent me an itinerary for the day. It included meeting with the strength and conditioning coach, the nutrition specialist, the athletic trainer, the academic counselor, and the director of student athlete development. In addition, I toured the campus and athletic facilities, had lunch with all three coaches, and ended with a meeting with the head coach. It was a very busy day, but it gave me a good picture of what it truly means to be a student athlete in college.
Question: Since when did you realize you wanted to play college lacrosse and why?
Lee: Since I started playing lacrosse in second grade, I’ve always loved the sport. I always knew that playing in college was something I would possibly like to work towards. I didn’t know for sure until this year, when college became more of a reality. Lacrosse is a big part of who I am, and I just couldn’t imagine a future without it.
Question: When looking for the right college to play at, what are a few things that you are looking for when trying to pick the right college and team?
Lee: I always looked for a strong academic school first, before I even looked into their lacrosse program. I feel that the team dynamic is the most important factor in finding the right fit. The bond between teammates is the backbone of success. It is also extremely important that you like the coaching staff and their style.
Question: What has been the been the greatest part of your recruitment journey?
Lee: The journey has just begun, and I will hopefully have a much better answer for you in a few weeks.
