Fantasy Football Talk: Week 2

Fantasy Football Talk: Week 2

Just like that the first week of the NFL season is in the books. Strong performances from players like Tyreek Hill, James Conner, and Alvin Kamara help solidify them as stars for the rest of this season. Point totals are done by the standard PPR ESPN league point totals.

Who to start:

Nelson Agholor- Wide Receiver- Philadelphia Eagles: The Buccaneers allowed 432 yards in the air alone to the Saints. Michael Thomas dropped 38 points with 16 receptions. Agholor managed 8 targets against the Falcons, and Alshon Jeffery is most likely is not going to play next week. Agholor should get a huge amount of targets with Jeffery out. Agholor could easily rack up 12 or more targets while going north of 100 yards.

Mitchell Trubisky- Quarterback- Chicago Bears: Trubisky had a decent week last week in a thriller against the Packers, but this week he heads to Seattle. The Seahawk defense surrendered the 4th most passing yards in week 1. They also allowed three passing TDs to Case Keenum who put up 20 points in a Broncos win. The Seahawk defense is not nearly what it once was, and it is now a defense that teams will easily be able to expose. Look to see Trubisky go north of 20 points this week.

Alfred Morris- Running Back- San Francisco 49ers: Morris had a very quiet week 1, but did still have double digit carries for 40 yards. He fumbled at the goal line for them, but on the bright side it showed that he has goal line responsibilities. The Lions defense is nothing near the caliber of the Vikings defense that Morris had to go against in week 1.  The Lions defense got blown out by the Jets on Monday night, and allowed 169 rushing yards (3rd most in week 1). Morris will most likely split carries with Matt Breida, but Morris has goal line responsibilities. I am rolling with Morris this week as a strong RB/flex option.

Who to sit:

AJ Green- Wide Receiver- Cincinnati Bengals: The Ravens defense allowed only 70 passing yards in week one and allowed no TDs. Yeah, yeah, I know it was the Bills. Yeah, I know it was Nathan Peterman. They held a QB to 0.0 QBR though. I’m sure the Bengals will have a little more success than the Bills, but this Ravens defense is the real deal. AJ Green I think will be shut down this week. Kelvin Benjamin, the Bills WR1, only racked up one catch for 10 yards. The Bengals O-line is not that solid and the Ravens can consistently get to the QB. I cannot see Dalton being able to be successful and being able to find his favorite target AJ Green.

Russell Wilson- Quarterback- Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks head to Chicago to take on a Bear defense that looked solid in week 1. I know it is hard to ignore the fact that Aaron Rodgers picked them apart in the second half, but it is Aaron Rodgers. If you are going to compare a defense to how well they can guard Rodgers then almost no defense will look good. Wilson will not have Doug Baldwin this week, and has historically not played nearly as well on the road then at home. He averages nearly 5 less fantasy points on the road then at home. The Bears gave up the third least amount of TD passes to QBs when they played in Chicago last season. Wilson is a risky play this week.

LeSean McCoy- Running back- Buffalo Bills: Any theory that “Oh Buffalo has no weapons McCoy will get all the points” is just wrong. Even with Josh Allen in at QB for this week I think defenses will focus their entire defensive strategy around stopping him. McCoy put up 3 points in week 1. The Bills were not only unable to get him quality touches, but were unable to get him touches period. He only had 8 total touches (7 rushing and 1 receiving) for a grand total of 21 yards. Los Angeles has one of the better secondaries in all of football so I think Allen will have a rough time. The Chargers defense did not surrender a rushing TD last week and 3.9 yards per carry. Therefore, they will have to turn to McCoy for offense and I think the Charger defense of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram lll will be waiting to break through Buffalo’s tragic O-line to stop McCoy.

Waiver-Wire Pickups

Tyrod Taylor- Quarterback- Cleveland Browns: Every year Tyrod Taylor is underrated, and every year he finds himself on the waiver wire pickup sheet. He put up 24 points in an impressive tie against the Steelers. The best part about Taylor is that even when he has a bad passing game (like in week 1 going 15/40) he makes up for it with his feet. He is a great pick up for struggling QBs like Matthew Stafford or if your QB is injured like Carson Wentz. He is currently owned in 42.5% of all ESPN fantasy leagues.

George Kittle- Tight End- San Francisco 49ers: He was Garoppolo’s favorite target during week 1 (largely due to Marquise Goodwin’s injury). He put up 90 receiving yards on 5 receptions, and was a feature piece in the 49ers offense. Last year him and Jimmy G had an extremely solid connection, and that has continued over thus far. He was one of my favorite TE heading into the season, and he has lived up to the sleeper hype he received. He is currently owned in only 60% of ESPN fantasy leagues.

Quincy Enunwa, Wide Receiver, New York Jets: Enunwa put up 18 points in the Jets dominating win over the Lions, and was easily Darnold’s favorite target. He received 10 targets and was often used as a safety valve by Darnold. Look for him to continue this form as Darnold is still getting use to NFL level of play. He is only owned in 38% of leagues at the moment and has the potential to easily be a top 30 WR this year, if not higher.
