The girls varsity lacrosse team has been off to a great season as they continue their streak of winning their first 13 games. All of that will be on the line tomorrow night when they face George Mason (11-1) at home at 6.

Pushing through teammates injuries and long rigorous training has only helped them bond and value the little things. “We are a fun and close-knit group with a lot of personality,” Coach Traynor says.

This year’s team is significantly smaller than past years with only 19 girls on the team but as Mya Brock said, “Our team is small, but mighty and we are going to continue the success with focus.”

Tomorrow night’s game will be their biggest test. With their recent victory against Riverside, 12-11, the team is confident in their ability to win close games against strong teams. Mason played Riverside Monday night losing at home 15-12.

With only four freshmen on varsity, Tierney Schiable said, “My goals are to progress as a student and as an athlete. I do feel a bit of pressure because I don’t have as much experience as some of the other older players.” The team is being expected to have more endurance and mental toughness as the season continues and the squad progresses.

The close knit team is excited to extend their season which is expected to be powerful and accomplishing. “We are working hard every practice and stepping up our game,” Laila Dajani said. According to coach Traynor, the team is solid and each game they get better and grow as a team.

Traynor also stated with two 4 year varsity starters, Catherine Renick and Katie Gilley, they are really taking their leaderships roles well and setting a great example for the younger players. They have strong athletes all across the field, anchored by the goalie, Katie Peterson, and are looking forward to continue their season.
