Game of the Week: Boys Lacrosse vs. Yorktown

This Saturday at 11:00 am, the Dominion Boys’ Lacrosse team will be heading up to John Hopkins University to face one of the toughest opponents in Dominion history. Yorktown High School, located in New York, is currently ranked 21st on US Lacrosse Magazine’s top 25 high school lacrosse teams.

The Titans are 1-0 this year, following a 12-9 victory against Yorktown (VA) last Saturday. Offensively, the Titans are led by Senior Attackmen Kyle Kivinski. The Delaware University lacrosse commit was encouraged by his team’s ability to move the ball around on offense, “We did a good job of getting everyone involved,” Kivinski said, “The goals were spread pretty evenly between the midfielders and attackmen.”

The Titans know they are facing a different animal on Saturday, though. Going against a team of this caliber amongst an all-around trying regular season schedule is what this team needs moving forward, “Playing a team like Yorktown (NY) will give us a feel for how we matchup against one of the top high schools in the country and hopefully will help us realize that we can run with anyone.”

On offense, Kivinski has acknowledged that the Titans are going to have to cherish each possession they get, “Until we figure out a consistent plan to win faceoffs we need to make sure every time we have the ball, we make it count” Kivinski said.

Defensively, the Titans did a great job of getting crucial stops when needed against Yorktown (VA). Senior goalie Jack Von Hoene emphasized the need to “improve more on communication”, a crucial factor that has a large impact on the defensive side of the field.

For Saturday, Dominion can’t get lost in the hype of playing against a top program, or playing at John Hopkins. They have to treat this game like any other one, “We are going to try to win this game like any other game, if we do what we were taught I think we have a chance of beating this team.” Von Hoene said.
