Aaron Wimberly is a senior at Dominion who has shown an impressive talent with guitar.  Aaron has made it into All-State Guitar 3 years in a row which only accepts 40 students in Virginia. “It is expected that only the top 10% of students should even attempt the audition” said Mrs. Loncar.

Aaron, the only student from Dominion who was accepted, came 4th out of everyone who auditioned making him the Section Leader for guitar 4, “I was the Section leader for Guitar 4 which means in my audition score it was the fourth highest in the state” Whimberly said.

Mrs. Loncar said “his first All-State he made it as a freshman which is really really difficult to do.” Aaron is an inspiration to all the fine arts taught at Dominion and he will be sorely missed as he graduates this year, but he leaves an inspiring story.

Aaron started playing when he was six but was self-taught and didn’t receive lessons, “I think I really started actually playing in 9th grade, when I started learning to read music and actually classical guitar technique,” Whimberly said.

He also talked about his experience at all-state guitar and how much of an amazing time he had and the people he met, “it has been a hugely enjoyable experience, rooming with your friends, going to all-state, really having a thorough understanding of the pieces they give you there is a phenomenal experience,” Whimberly said.

Remember to come support Aaron and the guitar program at their concerts.
