Where Will Kirk Cousins Land?
Kirk Cousins is a big question mark in free agency this year. He could land on a variety of teams. Here are the top four teams I could see him playing on in the 2018-2019 season in order of most to least likely.
- Jacksonville Jaguars– With Blake Bortles being their starting quarterback don’t expect them to stick with less than mediocre. However, they have the best defense in the league, a good wide receiver core, one of the best offensive lines in the league, and a great running game. The only thing holding them back is Blake Bortles. The Jaguars have about 24 million in cap space. However, letting walk Blake Bortles would free up 18.7 million dollars in cap. Also if they let Brandon Linder walk that could free up an additional 7.3 million. Since the Jaguars already have great wide receivers and Allen Robinson tore his ACL they might let him walk freeing up an additional 10.2 million. This could make their 2018 cap space around 60 million giving them more than enough money to afford him.
- Denver Broncos– The Denver Broncos statistically have the third best defense in the league. They have Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders at WR. They have a mediocre running game with CJ Anderson. The Denver Broncos also have the fifth pick in the draft, and could get Cousins some more offensive firepower. Don’t be surprised to see Kirk Cousins playing as a Bronco. With the 10th best cap space in the league they could offer Cousins a very attractive offer (42 million).
- Arizona Cardinals- The Cardinals have the fifteenth pick in the draft, and desperately need a quarterback with Carson Palmer retiring. If they don’t resign Larry Fitzgerald and Adrian Peterson they would free up a lot more in cap space giving them a total cap space of around 38 million. They could competitively go after Kirk Cousins and possibly sign a WR like Jarvis Landry in free agency. This however is the worst team on this list.
- Washington Redskins– The Redskins will have 60 million dollars in cap space. However, the Redskins have franchise tagged him two years in a row. If they were to do that it would cost them 34 million. He carried the offensive this year, and had some very impressive stats. I see the Redskins signing Cousins, Tyrod Taylor, or drafting a quarterback. Cousins is demanding big money, and we just need to see if they are prepared to give it to him.
