What You Missed Last Week

A look back at the week that was in the news and highlighting what students need to know

Trump mouthing National Anthem:

In recent news, Trump was spotted mouthing the nation’s Star Spangled Banner at the Alabama vs. Georgia football game in Atlanta. Trump proclaimed his views on the national anthem being a “protest for racial discrimination”. It is quite ironic how the President of the United States appears to not know the national anthem word for word.

Facebook says big changes are coming to your news feed:

Social media users will soon be seeing some changes to their Facebook feed. Zuckerberg expresses how he wants people to feel more connected to Facebook and from now on, people will be seeing more posts from their family and friends versus random articles that no one takes the time to read. Zuckerberg’s ultimate goal is for friends and family to gain stronger relations with one another through Facebook.

Effects of Hurricane Maria:

Hurricane Maria creates a horde of destruction to Puerto Rico. Families are forced to live in homes with no roofs. Although, calling it a “home” is far from what it is; people use the jungle as their restroom, have to shower with a garden hose and have nothing but cardboard floors with holes in it to sleep on. Puerto Rico already faces extreme poverty and the impact from Hurricane Maria makes their living ten times harder.
