Fantasy Football Talk: Playoff Advice

“Oh well,” seems to be a theme that is going around so many playoff teams with injuries to big names like Wentz and Kamara. After craziness from week 14 including a “snow bowl” in Buffalo, injuries to stars all around, and Tom Brady struggling against the Dolphins, there is a lot to go over. Point totals are done in non-ppr ESPN standard point system.

Must Start: Alshon Jeffery against the Giants. Even with Wentz out do not be afraid to start very valuable pieces involved in the Eagles’ offense, that including, Alshon Jeffery. The Giants have allowed the second most passing yards this season and are tied for most passing TDs allowed. Nick Foles may not be a Carson Wentz (not even close) but he surrounded by a whole bunch of valuable pieces that can support him including, Jeffery, Ajayi, Blount, and Agholor. Remember what happened last time Foles was surrounded by valuable pieces in 2013, exactly, 27 TDs and only 2 INT. So, with all that said, Alshon Jeffery is a must start against the Giants.

Phillip Rivers against the Chiefs. Rivers is averaging 20 points per game since week 10 and is now ranked as a top 10 QB in fantasy points this season. In a very important AFC West matchup this week for Rivers and his Chargers against a weak Chiefs secondary, look to see Rivers have a field day. The Chiefs have allowed the 5th most passing yards this season and have allowed 19 passing TDs.

Kenyan Drake against the Bills. Coming off 20 point and 19 point performances in the past two weeks and is now up against the horrendous Bills rush defense, it almost seems like the stars are aligned for Drake. The Bills have allowed the most rushing TDs this season and the 6th most rushing yards allowed. Drake is a must start this week.

Sit: Frank Gore against the Broncos. Even with the Colts showing no interest into getting Marlon Mack more touches, Gore will not be putting up good numbers this week. The Broncos rush defense is extremely strong, only allowing 3.3 yards per rush (tied for league low) and are tied for second least amount of rushing TDs allowed this season.

A.J. Green against the Vikings. The Vikings are only allowing 6.4 yards per attempt (tied for second least), they have allowed the 5th least amount of passing yards, and are tied for least amount of passing TDs allowed this season. Green does not have a favorable matchup this week heading into Minnesota where they are fighting for a top NFC seed.

T.Y. Hilton against the Broncos. Against solid pass defense Hilton has been held in check. He only put up 2.3 against the Steelers, 2.7 against the Jaguars, and 3 against (a healthy) Seahawks team. The signs do not look good for Hilton as the Broncos have allowed the second lowest number of passing yards this season and are the only team to force a passing attempts number under 400 on the season (388). The Colts will probably stick with the trend set by many other teams of not passing against the Broncos.

Waiver-wire Pickups: Blake Bortles. QB on the Jaguars. Say you are not fortunate enough to be able to snatch up Rodgers to replace either an injured Wentz or a struggling QB, Bortles is on fire right now! Only owned in 20% of leagues, Bortles is a fantasy monster at the moment putting up 22.5/25/18.5 in his last three weeks. Bortles is a solid pickup for a team that is need of a QB.

Marquise Goodwin. WR on the 49ers. Garoppolo is rejuvenating a struggling 49ers team and is using Goodwin to do it. Goodwin is only owned in 60% of leagues and is getting tons of volume from Garoppolo. He has 78+ yards in his last 3 games and is looking like a favorite target of Garoppolo.

Kerwynn Williams. RB on the Cardinals. He has 16+ carries in his last two games and seems to now be the featured back in Arizona. Only owned 20% of leagues. He is getting most of the carries in Arizona and has the potential to be a consistent RB who can put double digits week in and week out.
