JMU Gets No. 1 Seed for FCS Playoffs, Tech Escapes vs Pitt

Virginia Tech (8-3) – The Hokies narrowly beat the 4-7 Pitt Panthers 20-14, thanks to a late goal-line stand. Josh Jackson completed less than 50% of his passes, while throwing a touchdown, running for one, and throwing an interception. Wide receiver Cam Phillips finally got back to where he was in the beginning of the season when he caught eight passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. The Hokie defense forced two turnovers, and held Pitt on the goal-line, to win the game. Tech jumped back into the AP Poll to No. 24 following the win, and will look to get another one as they travel to Charlottesville to take on their rival the Virginia Cavaliers (6-5). The game will be shown on ESPN at 8 PM ET.

Maryland (4-7) – Maryland fell in a hard fought game to No. 17 Michigan State, 17-7. Max Bortenschlager was back, and didn’t have the greatest game, only throwing for 121 yards, with DJ Moore catching 8 passes for 76 yards. The defense played well, hold the Spartans to under 300 yards of total offense, and forcing a fumble. Maryland looks to get a big win to end of the season when the host No. 10 Penn State at 3:30 PM ET on Big Ten Network.

Virginia (6-5) – Virginia’s upset bid against No. 2 Miami was squashed, as Miami finished on a 30-0 run, to win 44-28. Kurt Benkert had a great game, throwing for 384 yards and four touchdowns. Benkert spread the ball around to nine different receivers, with Joe Reed leading the way with 81 yards and a touchdown. The Cavaliers will try to get another statement win, as they host their rivals, the No. 24 ranked Virginia Tech Hokies.

James Madison (11-0) – The Dukes beat Elon 31-3, and were selected as the No. 1 seed for the FCS Playoffs. Bryan Schor threw for 214 yards, ran for 76 yards and 3 touchdowns. JMU will host the winner of Stony Brook (9-2), and Lehigh (5-6) on December 2nd at 2 PM ET on MASN.
