Athlete of the Week: Varsity Cheerleading

The Dominion Cheer team has earned their second athlete of the week for this week with one of their best seasons ever, this year.

After a pivotal teammate Paige Russel was diagnosed with mono, the team knew they had to work hard to make sure they could place in the top four at the District competition to move on to regionals. The team had a long practice the night before districts and their work paid off as they placed third at districts advancing them on to regionals. “Cheer is a collaborative effort that can’t be done with just one person. It is the most collaborative sport and we work hard everyday to make sure we can perform as a single unit. When we heard that Paige wouldn’t be able to compete at districts it was really shocking and worrisome. We knew we had a lot of work to do so we came to practice ready to work to make the routine great for districts. Hearing our name called for third was great because that meant we were going to regionals. Since then we have been practicing super hard to place in the top 2 and advance to states so hopefully Paige can compete with us again” said, captain, Cheyenne Baltimore.

At the regional competition last night they unfortunately did not place in the top two to move on to states, however the cheerleaders will still be at games on Friday nights cheering on the Titans.
