Titans Look to Rebound After Tough Loss
Following a crushing 28-12 loss against conference rivals Woodgrove last Friday, the Titans must have a quick turnaround, likely without their star quarterback for at least this week. In the 3rd quarter of Friday’s game Thomas Jarman suffered a non-contact left knee injury that would put him on the sidelines for the rest of the game.
As they play the waiting game with Jarman’s official injury news, the Titans are turning to star sophomore wide receiver Trey Hayes to play quarterback Friday. “Right now, Trey Hayes is our starting quarterback, Aidan Dolan is our backup, and we will go from there,” head coach Karl Buckwalter said.
Coach Buck has said Trey is one of the best, if not the best athlete in Dominion right now, and he has shown it throughout this year with his big play ability as a pass-catcher. He has speed, quickness, and great vision as a runner, but he only attempted one pass in his short stint last Friday, and they will likely need to use that arm at some point against the Raiders. If not, the Titans are going to look to use his athleticism to their advantage on Friday.
That loss dropped the Titans to 5th place in the VHSL ratings with only the top 6 teams from 4C making the playoffs. That makes this game against the Loudoun County Raiders vital to their playoff chances with just three games left in the season.
On if he thinks Thomas could still play this year Buckwalter is keeping spirits high, “We should be getting the [MRI] results soon. I’m always hopeful, he was walking on it this week, but we’re just going to have to wait and see.”
Before the injury, Jarman threw for 157 yards passing completing 9 of 14 passes to go along with two touchdowns. Woodgrove would then go on to score 16 unanswered points against a gassed Titan defense as their offense scrambled to find answers at the backup quarterback position.
The Titans are also likely to be without starting lineman Joel Campos, who is also a key part to both their offensive and defensive lines.
