Parking Lot Changes Going All Right

Cones show the path that all cars must take through the faculty lot.

This year students came back to school with the left turn into the student parking lot missing. Now everyone must make right turns through the faculty lot while trying to enter school.  Every year some change occurs to the Dominion parking lot, whether minor or major.

Mr. Lepovsky, security director at Dominion, said, “Since I’ve been here, there’s always been change but every time it’s an improvement to make it safer and more expedient.” It used to be that students would make a left turn and sit and wait as traffic would slowly move around the spirit rock out front of Dominion High School.

Noelle Heilpern, a Junior at Dominion, said, “With the taking out of the left turns it makes it a lot more of a smoother transition throughout the parking lot.”

“When we were allowing students to enter the parking lot and immediately make a left turn, it was holding up our flow of traffic,” Dr. Brewer said. Heilpern agrees, saying, “{The traffic pattern} was an issue because there were a lot of people trying to get out of the parking lot in a short period of time resulted in a very big mess.”

“We are just trying to get everyone in here in a timely way and start school on time,” Dr. Brewer stated. “It has actually worked really, really effectively.”

Others agree with Dr. Brewer. “I think this the best and safest that it’s been,” Mr. Lepovsky said. Heilpern said, “I like it {the process} longer just so that we are getting somewhere instead of sitting around for longer periods of time.”

Every year the parking lot procedures change in some way, shape, or form, but as Dr. Brewer said, “The big test for any traffic pattern is what happens on the worst weather days. If this plan can work on the worst weather day then we will stick with it.”
